Valentine’s Day began with awful news for users of the dating app called Coffee Mets Bagel, according to network security and ethical hacking specialists from the International Institute of Cyber Security the online dating service has begun to inform its users of having suffered a data breach.
Via email, the company began to notify its users: “We recently discovered that some data from your Coffee Meets Bagel account may have been compromised by a third party without authorization,” says the message that the affected users received. Coffee meets Bagel claims that the incident was discovered on Monday, February 11th.
The company chose not to mention the name of the third party that unduly acceded to the users’ information. In its official statement, Coffee Meets Bagel mentions that it is already collaborating with a network security services company, as well as the authorities have already been notified.
Coffee Meets Bagel allows users to register for the service using their Facebook access credentials, so there is concern about a possible outbreak of credential stuffing attacks. However, the company ensures that only the user names and their respective email addresses were compromised.
When questioned about the current state of the situation, Coffee Meets Bagel teams said they will keep the stakeholders informed of any new information regarding this data breach.
