Thanks to a new domain name, the adult entertainment site managed to dodge the ban in India
According to reports of experts in digital forensics from the International Institute of Cyber Security, last week, the government of India ordered telecommunications services companies to block 827 pornographic sites, including Pornhub, one of the world’s largest adult content sites. In response to this government measure, Pornhub has launched a new website specifically for its users in India, called pornhub.net.
According to reports from an information security and digital forensics firm, India is the third largest consumer of adult content through Pornhub. Corey Price, vice president of the company, emphasizes the fact that watching pornography in private is not considered illegal in India, mentioning that the company seeks to work jointly with the Indian government to find a middle ground between the two positions which will benefit the consumer.
“There are no anti-pornography laws in India; access to adult content in private is completely legal. It is clear that the Indian government does not have a solution to a very serious and systemic problem in the country, and is using adult sites like ours as scapegoats”.
“While Pornhub has always spoken out against government censorship and everyone in the company is ultimately disappointed by this recent ruling, we are willing to work together with the government to resolve any concerns they have and help them rectify the situation”.
The company also accused the government of India of blocking popular sites such as Pornhub and not blocking other dangerous sites that harbor banned or dangerous content for users without sufficient knowledge of the risks of browsing though this type of malicious websites.
“This is evident from the fact that the government only banned large sites like Pornhub and did not block thousands of dangerous sites that may run illegal content”, added Price. ·The government’s decision to prohibit sites like ours, which comply with parental controls, has functions to eliminate unauthorized content, and a strict policy of Terms of Service, is a big setback for the people of India, a country that has become one of the biggest consumers in the adult entertainment industry”.
According to reports from digital forensics and information security experts, last year Pornhub worked together with the Russian authorities to implement the mandatory login to access their sites. Now, Russian citizens who wish to use Pornhub must register a telephone number and their passport number to access the site, thus avoiding the use of the platform by underage people.
